In the Shadow of the Sun

In the presence of Didier Roth-Bettoni

Derek Jarman, 1981, UK/West Germany
DCP, Color, No dialogue, 51'

  • 17.10, 17:00Cinématographe

Jarman talked about this Super 8 movie as “a movie of fire, an apocalypse of England that starts with a trip to the stone circles of Avebury, near Stonehenge.” Undoubtedly the climax of the filmmaker’s experimental vein, In the Shadow of the Sun superimposes images of rituals, mystical objects, mirrors, surfaces and textures, while reusing sequences from other Jarman shorts. Its been quite long in the pipeline, as its creation lasted from 1972 to 1980, when the music composed by Throbbing Gristle was added. DRB
